Late Monday the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) said it will be setting up a commission to recommend a way forward for continuing board certification — the much maligned MOC — that has been roiling the physician community for years.

Initially, ABMS will establish a planning committee which will in turn will set up the commission, The planning committee will “include representatives from ABMS, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Coalition for Physician Accountability, Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), and Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association as well as public members,” the group said.
